What Quickbooks Won’t Tell You About Bookkeeping

I am a certified Quickbooks Online ProAdvisor.

I have used Quickbooks Online and Quickbooks Desktop for over a decade, both as a bookkeeper and as a business owner.

It’s good. It’s ubiquitous. It’s updated frequently (sometimes a little too frequently. It’s robust for businesses of many sizes. It integrates with other business management tools.

It’s not perfect. Mistakes are made. What worked yesterday might not work today. You can miss a beat and your numbers look off.

Because Quickbooks is so robust it may offer more than you need, especially if you just started your business. I would still recommend using Quickbooks even in the early days of your business to begin keeping good records and start good bookkeeping practices. That said, it is very easy to allow the guesses Quickbooks makes tumbleweed into messy books.

It’s not a matter of competence – it a matter of proper resource management

Can you do it yourself? Absolutely! The question is, “do you want to do it yourself?” Do you want to invest the time to understand it? Do you want to invest time sitting on hold with customer support? Do you want to risk getting behind with tax payments or invoicing? It’s not a matter of competence – its a matter of resource management.
